Hi,
Today I received a laguiole knife from my wife. I did some research on it and I think it is a knock-off.
It has France carved in the blade on one side and 12c27 sandvik on the other. The word laguiole is stamped on the blade, not embossed. It also doesn't have the shepherds cross. It has the fly and carving on the spine. There is also no brass at the end of the knife. My main problem is that it came in the opened position and I can't close it. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Pieman:confused: :o

Pieman,

Laguiole is a knife making center in France. There are many makers of Laguiole style knves. Please look here.

There are many different style handles, some with crosses, some not. The same with bolsters, both front and back. That your knife is made of 12c27 sandvik, has the bee on the spine, Laguiole etched on the blade and France stamped on it certainly suggests you have the real thing.

There are some Laquiole style knives that use locking mechanisms, without a picture or more info it would be hard to help. More likely though is that it is a slip joint. They all have very stiff spines and just take a lot of pressure to close.

You might also have a Laguiole table knife, which is fixed but looks exactly like a folder.

Hope this helps.
Regards,
Greg

I know really big differences between various laguioles. you have to know that laguiole is a city in france (a cheese is called laguiole too because of the place where it is from), and that every maker who lives and work in this city(I might be wrong on that point but that's what I've heard)is allowed to put the bee on his knives.
a day, I saw an automatic laguiole. there are many variations of this knife.

if there is a hole for the blade in the handle, it is obviously a folder, and you may have to force to close it.
