Just a piece of Nick Smolen's mosaic damascus and some stabilized maple burl scales. Sure wish I had more of this damascus, as it really came out nicely, IMO. Kinda wish I could keep this one, but it's headed to Sweden, where it'll hopefully be used. The edge on this one is flat ground nice and thin. Nice, carry size at 6.25" overall. Heat treat by ABS Mastersmith John Perry, who also milled the weight reduction holes in the tang for me.

Ok, opinions needed. Nickel silver or stainless pins and thong liner, or brass pins and thong liner? I have both, and am just wondering which would look best with this steel and wood selection.

Are you going to put a point on that spoon, uhh knife?:D

Best Regards,

Man, that "cuts to the bone".

Anyway, I would recommend stainless. Most spoons, Uh, I mean knives, just seem to look better with stainless.

You didn't ask, but I will offer a tip anyway. When you get the scales all sanded like you want them, put a coat of Teak Oil on. Let it set for about 15-20 minutes, then wipe the excess off. After it dries overnight, take one of Mama's towels and rub the snotz out of it. It will shine like new money.

Nice looking blade by the way. You are gonna be a knifemaker in spite of yourself.

that looks like it's going to be a nice little knife:thumbup:.
My vote is for blued steel fasteners.
The wood and the steel are both so active, it's going to be a real mesmerizer.

Brass will go well with the wood, but stainless pins with a satin finish will flow with the color tone of the blade.

The damascus is wild !

And I didn't chuckle at STeven's comments. OK. . . .maybe a little. :D

im no expert, but i'd go with s.s. or nickle silver. i think brass is tacky looking. just my .02

That is some cool damascus. Looks like alien creatures with bats in their helmets going down the blade.

I think satin stainless would go good with the blade.

Hope to see it when it's done.

Peter

Very slick little piece - I like the wood scales. Stainless pins would be my choice.
