They came close. Sher got a convex edge -- not fat but it's convex. Excellent work overall. Note says "USA wood" but I'm not sure what kind. Woodchucks?Newari carving man did inlay. Best I've seen for a very long time. As you can probably see it's not a chiruwa style and the old model awl still has the broken tip so that's how Sher made it. Village sarki did excellent job on scabbard. It's a 10/10 effort.

I got in a half dozen. Dan has the priority list. Those prepaid want to wait and see if they send some chiruwa or do you want to go for this one. I can email and ask that the next run be chiruwa -- might get it or might not.

Tell me what you want to do.

That's gorgeous. Danny, count me in for one... preferably one osage orangey like this photo :)
A little more argyle than the original, but I like it!

Can ya take photos of all of 6 and than first in line gets first crack or pass... second gets second pick... and so on.

I'll take one of these beauties for one of my prepaid slots. Especially if there is one of the group that is a little straighter than the others. The other prepaid can wait until the next batch...

Now I'm laughing at that awl. For some reason I thought the broken tip was just a smidgen off, not 1/3 the way down it  Looks like they need to cut some teeth into the sides and make it a triangular file.

I'll wait for the next batch to see if a purple heart comes in. That is one awesome knife!! :D

I am holding out for the Chiruwa and the NON HABAKI BOLSTER!!!

If we don't get any like that can I get a refund? That was a lot of bucks for me to come up with so I'd like to get what was originally proposed.

Wheee! They made some Chiruwa ones!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Interesting that the original design came out as Chiruwa handles when the originals were mostly stick tangs. ;) :D

Had I of known we could get the fully curved handle in a Chiruwa style the originals may have been designated as such. As much as I hate the Chiruwa handles I hate the straight handles more.:D :p

Yvsa, you mean the "original" YCS for this run was designed as Chiruwas, but when you designed the knife orginally they were not, correct?

Why do you not like the chiruwas handles? Doesn't it make the handle a lot stronger? Just curious. And I guess I thought most chiruwa handles such as on the M43 and Chiruwa AK were curved. (?)

Norm

Sorry if I was confusing Norm. Thje originals were designed as stick tangs although there were a few made with Chiruwa handles.

I don't like them because the handle material shrinks away from the steel And that they have more vibration when chopping with them, for me anyway.
The stick tang is just as strong, if not stronger, than the Chiruwa tang when substantially made as a proper stick tang should be.
Haven't noticed any AK Chiruwas that's been curved but it might just be me.:)

Yvsa:

Got it! Thanks for the info. When chopping with my Chiruwa Ak it really does give rougher feedback to my hand as you say, but I figured that was the price to pay for extra strength. I didn't realize a stick tang would be as strong. In fact, I was worried on one of my katanas because it did not have the full chiruwa tang, although the handle seems very well fitted. (?)

Thanks again for the information. I won't mind getting any of the new batch of YCS's, chiruwa tang or otherwise, but am mildly disappointed that the ones I have seen all have the habaki bolster. Oh, well, that's why horse trading was invented!

Norm
