Closed Blade Retention on Umnumzaan

Hello fellow CRK fans,

I just picked up a new Umnumzaan and I am a bit concerned at how easily the blade opens and I am wondering if this is normal. I know that the locking mechanisms are different between the Sebenzas and the Umnumzaan but the detent seems to be noticeably better on all my Sebenzas than my Umnumzaan - As a matter of fact I would say that my Umnumzaan hasweaker close retention than all my other knives (except for my Spyderco Para-Military).

How would you guys describe the closed retention on your Umnumzaan?

Do you think that this is something that I might be able to send back to CRK to have the detent strenghtened?

Thanks.

The ceramic ball embedded in the lock bar fits right into the detent in the blade on mine. No way its going to open on its own. I have to give it a good pull and shaking it has no effect on blade retention.

I can only throw it open when i only grab the extreme end of the handle away from the pivot. And then i have to shake really hard. Otherwise no way it is opening...

Yours sounds like it is out of spec

Check for play, your pivot might be loose, and there might be some misalignment with the ceramic detent, that's all i can think of.
Mine's got a solid detent, no amount of wild swinging affects the detent. it takes a decided, yet smooth movement to open the blade.

My Umnumzaan also has a very solid lockup. It takes a quite a bit of effort to open up. Hopefully, with time and practice, it will loosen up.

You can loosen up the pivot screw for an easier opening:thumbup:
