closed blade retention?

hey there ive read in a couple of posts here about how the double ball detent will sometimes fail to keep the knife closed on emersons, if this problem occurs is there a way to fix it without having to send the knife into the factory?

I have never had a problem with the regular double detent liner locks but I have found the HD knives (no double detent) can be a bit "loose". I have had my 12 and HD-7 open up slightly in my pockets while running and doing other activities.

It is obviously not a problem if the knife is sheathed or cliped so the blade can't start to open. I only have problems when I clip the knife to the knee pocket, belt or somewhere it has enough wiggle room.

I've never experienced any problems with the double detent keeping any of my productions in the closed position either. That problem tends to be a Benchmade liner lock folder problem more than anywhere else.

Had that prob on a new A100, large.
Simple to fix if you want to take it apart.
Note - the retainer ball is on the opposite side of the lock. The lock side ball does NOT retain the blade closed.
There is small stamped out lug with the ball in it(I love titanium).
Simply pry the "lug" out gently to put more pressure on the blade.
DON'T OVER DO IT. You may test it several times to get it right.(did i say I love titanium):D

Again, if you don't care to take it apart, don't.

If you did it on a new production, maybe all since its a newer model? A100, then you should be saying you love 300 series stainless steel as only the lock side is Ti. Detent side liner is thinner than the lock side if its steel. Just an FYI. :)

This is a good fix!

Cool, take it both liners are the same thickness? Hadn't seen any a100s with dual Ti liners before, learn something new everyday

no probs with the detents on my '12 so far, IIRC i had a bad detent on one of my many EKI's back in '02 or so, a commander IIRC, which they promptly fixed (for free), other than that 1 i have never had any probs and i've had a lotta emersons thru the yrs.
