Well, this has been up for 12+ hours and there seems to be no interest, so I'll close it down for now and open it up later. (I have a very involved lab assignment tomorrow, and I won't be back on until Friday morning.)
I'm giving away a D2 Extreme. I have at least a dozen Kabar's, Cattaraugus', Camillus', Buck's, etc. I really want to keep this knife, but I just don't use it like I thought I would, and it's way too stout & tough to sit idle. This is an amazing knife, one that I'd put up against any hard-use knife made these days for outdoor work. I'll use a random number generator to pick the winner.
In your post, tell us which old and/or discontinued Kabar model you like, why you like it, and if you have one, what its history is. We all know about the #1217 and its variations, but there are many older knives out there that deserve to have their stories told. Pics are appreciated.
This giveaway will run until midnight, Sunday, April 19th, and is open to all regularly contributing members of the Kabar & Becker forums, and the Great Outdoors forum too. Your (first) post in this thread is your entry number. If the winner is a "Kabar Krew" member, I'll throw in a nice little something extra as well. NOTE: Do NOT expect to win if you don't actively contribute to the previously mentioned forums (I will check), or if all you do is sign up for every giveaway on bladeforums.
I'm also giving away a second Kabar knife, the type & model of which will remain unknown until the second recipient receives it. The recipient of the D2 Extreme will choose the recipient of the "secret" knife.
Modifications: I stripped the blade & hardware (which I eventually do to all of my knives) and worked the blade surfaces down with steel wool, starting with #1 and working all the way to 0000. I had planned to convex the fine edge and rework the serrations; however, several other Kabar's came to live here and I didn't get to it. I'll let the recipient put the edge on it that they prefer. Be warned, the edge definitely needs work - it's functional, but nowhere near as sharp as it could be.
