Media blasting will definitely give it some grip. You'll need a new finish coat of some type or the bare metal will oxidize and look like crap over time.
There's also the possibility of file work, epoxy filled with some kind of fine grit , grip tape, drilling or milling the surface, kicking it down the alley a few times (it'd work, but I'm really just joking!) or replacing the scales you have with another version.
Maybe someone on the exchange would be willing to trade scales?

I put skateboard tape on my slick Kershaw Knockout, and it is very grippy. In fact, you only really need a couple of small areas of the tape for plenty of grip. And you can undo it in 10 seconds if you don't like it.
