  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

I haven't noticed much of a difference so long as it has the 7 strand interior.
I don't go anywhere close to 550lb on my lines though.

I've purchased a lot paracord from a lot of different places. The best stuff I have found, as well as a great company to deal with is Supply Captain. You can buy lengths in anything from 25' up to 1000'.
These guys, they have glow in the dark, reflective and IR.

I just get mine from the local surplus store....

Just saying, 450 cord has way more color options.

I have only bought rothco so far, and 300 ft rolls at that. It seems like a lot at the time but you burn though it pretty quick. I have only gotten two rolls so far so I am interested to see what people thing. I haven't had any complaints with it so far but like I said I don't really have anything to compare it to.

Oh one thing I noticed on the first roll I got (black 300 ft rothco) I got about half way though the roll and realized that the rope wasn't one continuous rope. It was split into to 150 or possible three 100 ft ropes on one spool. Not sure if anyone else noticed that. Its not a problem for me just more of an observation.

I use Rothco.
have a 600 foot spool of OD hanging in the closet for easy access , and around 600 more feet in 6 different colors in a box right now. Love it.

I've used Rothco mostly, I've never had a problem with it, but I use it mostly for lanyards, tie downs, nothing close to 550lbs.

I just bought some Atwood MFG para cord, so I'll have to see how it compares to the Rothco cord.

I should also say that Supply Captain is Made in the USA.

Rothco / Atwood MFG are both made in the USA as well.

Thanks for the great info everyone! Looks like I will be heading to the army surplus store to look for some first.

If your just gonna be tying off handles and such then it doesn't much matter what kind/how strong. If it's for your pack then get the good stuff with 7 inner strands. It's suppossed to be 550 pound break strength and the cheaper ones don't have as many inner strands, i've seen some with only 1 big inner core srand.

I get mine from a local surplus store. 50 feet for 4 bucks, 100 feet for 8 bucks or 1000 feet roll for 30 bucks

IMO it is the best place to go. At $0.08/ft with nearly any color I could want, the surplus is a good standby :)
Good luck, I hope you get what you are looking for!!
