I broke down and bought a Blitz360 and commenced putting and edge on to all the knives in the house. The pull through sharpening messes up quite a few. There’s a 6 inch kitchen knife that has taken the brunt of my wife cutting up squash and beets on out stone counters for the last 10 years.

I did what I could with it. A week later it was dull again. Talked to the family and reminded them to use any of the nearly dozen cutting boards we have had for years that haven’t been used.

Sharpened it again.
Me: ‘remember to cut on the cutting boards.’

Closer counts. Lol

You are not alone. My wife doesn’t want to “mess up” her Pioneer Woman cutting boards. So she messes up the knife!

OUCH! Lol...

I have fought the knife wars with my significant other, and lost. She never owned a nice knife and as a single Mom, had no one to sharpen the few knives she owned. When we got together, I brought over a couple of kitchen necessity knives and told her to use a cutting board, let me know when the knives got dull (we weren't living together then) and never put a knife in the sink or dishwasher.

She used the cutting board. She was scared of using a really sharp knife as she was afraid she would slip and cut herself. So the knives were always in need of a touch up. Then one day, she was working in the kitchen, put my Sabatier serrated knife in the sink and dropped a cast iron skillet on top of it. The handle took the brunt of it and broke. I was stunned.

She was pissed off because she had never had that happened and wondered why I didn't buy better knives. Me? I was still stunned. I could tell that she was embarrassed and upset, so I decided to wait for another hill to die on. I went out and bought her her very own knives, pretty good quality, and asked her to NOT use the ones I brought over. She she has 4 knives and can do as she pleases with them and I don't worry or comment. I keep them kinda sharp.
That was 30 years ago and my current assortment of knives remain undamaged. Domestic tranquility preserved. (At least as far as cutlery is concerned!!)
