Whats a close Busse equivalent to a Swamp Rat M6? I like the M6's shape, handle and 6" blade. If I started looking for a Busse, I'm wondering where to start.

Good time to jump on the Bandwagon my friend! The Tankbuster will be released this week...have a look.

Here is a pic of a Hellrazor & SJTAC next to a Swamp Rat M6. These are about as close as you can get. I'm sure there are others, but this is the only pic I had available with a SR M6 in it.

Hope this helps. Les.

The feel of an M6 is very different from a SJTAC or even a HR. Hard to describe, really. The SJTAC feels much more quick and lively. I would describe the M6 more like a NO-E or maybe a BATAC-LE. Shorter, stubbier, stouter feeling... Not sure if that makes sense...

+1

The M6 feels very different than the SJTAC. As Stacey said: "The SJTAC feels much more quick and lively." I strongly agree. There is no comparing the M6 to the SJTAC IMO.

And I also concure that IMO the M6 feels significantly different than the HR as well.

The M6 is VERY handle heavy and a fair bit of a weight chunk feel to it in hand.

I used to have the M6, but didn't care for the feel and balance. I LOVE many Swamp Rat knives. But, the M6 just wasn't for me. I still have my SJTAC and HR, but have made some mods to my SJTAC. I really like my modded SJTAC and the HR is pretty nice as well.

I do have a Skinny ASH. And if you just look at the numbers, you might think they would feel comparable in the hand and balance.... But, they don't. Not even close IMO. Hard to explain.

I don't have a BATAC LE. It seems chunky to me. I can only guess it might be more similar to the M6 (?????)

I don't have an NO-E. The specs seem pretty similar. But, for whatever reason, I think I would prefer the NO-E.

For comparison:

M6..........................= 16.2 ounces; .235" thick; 6" blade; 11.68" oal

SJTAC….(stripped)…. = 13.0 ounces; .187” thick; 6.375” blade; 11.875” oal

Hell Razor…………………= 14.75 ounces; .1875” thick; 6.625” blade; 12.75” oal (est.)

BATAC-LE…………………= 16.3 ounces; .25” thick; 5.00” blade; 10.75” oal

NO-E..................... = 17.0 ounces; .25" thick; 6.0" blade; 11.5" oal

Skinny ASH (ASH1)..= 15.25 ounces; .1875” thick; 6.4” blade; 12.0” oal
ASH1 – CG……………….= 21.0 ounces; 0.320” thick; 6.4” blade; 12.0” oal
SFNO-LE………………….= 18.5 ounces; .22” thick; 7.0” blade, 12.75” oal

Thanks for the specs! The three above fit my mental class of "utility knife." Comparatively short and stout. I've owned two of three above but have been able to handle all. OT - I would like to find a ZTNO-E at a good price!

I will also agree that the M6 and the SJTAC feel entirely different in the hand. The M6 feels like a tank. When I first picked up mine, I felt like I could hack my way through a brick wall with it. It feels VERY stout and strong. The SJTAC feels much lighter and faster in the hand, and it's thinner. Makes a much better fighter, but it doesn't feel nearly as stout. I felt as though I could subject the M6 to very severe abuse, more so than the SJTAC. Whether that's actually true or not I don't know... but that's how they feel in the hand to me.

I really like the M6, and plan on picking up another one of these days, but I regularly carry the SJTAC.

Yeah, I'm very happy with how stout the M6 is. I have a ton of fixed blades for all different reasons, and I'm happy to have one I can go to all the time.

So I've been looking at the Ash-1 CG and Skinny Ash because my M6 seems to fall right in between as far as specs. I'm definitely falling in love with the Skinny Ash Knife test.com videos. What would be the benefit of going with a super fat knife like the Ash-1 CG, when it seems the Skinny Ash holds up so well, and is lighter. Its still INFI... It can still be battoned and chop well and hold a nice edge.

Also, whats the idea behind the finish on Busse knives. Something like the SFNO-LE has a satin finish, and the ASH knives, and my M6 have an applied color finish to them. Is one better than the other?

I can see why these knives are so addicting.

I have pondered this as well, and IMO the only benefits an Ash1 has over the Skinny Ash is lateral strength and batoning prowess. The fatness of the Ash1 starts the split sooner when batonning, but not fast enough for me to justify the added weight. So, judging from my experience with the two, the Skinny Ash is the better choice in most cases.
