I want a big chopper. I missed the boat on the 1311 (not happy about that) and I'm wondering what else out there is similar.

Closest I've found so far:
  • Himalayan Imports
  • Bark River Golok @ 11.25 inches Steel Thickness: .190 in

What else?

The BKRT Golok is fantastic. You could also consider the Junglas or any number of Busse models

BRKT Golok is an excellent chopper and large knife. You an choke-up on it for other uses very easily. Comes with an excellent sheath as well.

I have two rucki's and two 1311's; the 1311's are the better all around user of the two and I'd definitely pick a 1311 over the rucki despite the extra reach of a ruck... I'd say wait for a 1311 on the For Sale area here as they are :thumbup::thumbup:

Also, check out the RTAKII as well as it is big, thin and light weight too!

Look at the Svord Kiwi machete. It will chop right along with a 1311 maybe even better. It will most deffantly be more comfortable when doing long chopping days.

Check out some of the Condor machetes. The Warlock (12.5" long and 3/16" thick blade) looks pretty sweet, but a regular 18" long 1/8" thick machete should be very capable as well. Not all Machetes are made equal.

JUNGLAS all the way, what you lack in blade length you make up with best factory sheath there is! Best of luck :)

Kabar grass machete is the closest think in design shape to the 1311.

I'll do a side by side shot tonight for you...

I think the 1311 is in a league of it's own.

I do agree with this :) Here is the 1311, kabar grass machete, bark river machete (2009) and the ka bar kukri..

The handles on the grass machete are notorious for wiggle. Never had that with my kukri and its been used quite a bit. The handle on the 1311 is excellent IMO.
