I'd love to have an Emerson Folder closest to the legendary original CQC6 tactical folder. What is the model today available nearest the original tactical folder? I guess CQC7, but which one? Combined or plain edge, wave or not, super or regular, mini or normal, etc? I really seek for _THE_ original CQC Emerson available today.

Please excuse me if this is a FAQ question, I just have not found the answer to it.

I refer you to the Wikipedia article on E Emerson to read about the CQC6:

Here are some nice pictures of a custom CQC-6 [as well as others]:

the raven is supposedly the closest to the '6, although it looks nothing like it to ME. the '7 looks like a custom '7 not a '6.

FWIW emerson says he will never make a production '6 so if ya like them save your $$ and get a '6, i did lol.

although the '6 always gets the credit the viper was really the 1st tac knife he did, the closest to the viper is the I&I tanto, which IIRC isnt made anymore.

I have a '97 Raven which I got shortly after meeting Mr. Emerson at the Blade Show that year. A perfect size for EDC, and I'm seriously considering a Blackbird as well. Anyone have any experience with that model?

i've never been that crazy about either one myself, not that they are bad mind ya, they just seem kinda "plain jane" compared to the others, no wave/not really a innovative design (to me) they just seem like any other knife out there vs most of his other stuff which is a little different from most other stuff(to me).

they are perfectly serviceable knives though if ya like 'em, i have had each.

I think the 7 is closer to the 6. can't see how a Raven can be. Get a 7, then get it ferrrked to look like a 6. IMO, it can be done. but do you really want a 6 cos a 7 actually feels better in the hand.

Thanks everyone for your replies.

I think I'll go for the 7. I've never even seen any Emerson folder except in pics, but I'd love to add an Emerson to my collection of classic folders.

6 would be perfect, but over my budget at the moment.

The only similarities between a Raven and a CQC6 are they are both folders. Thats it.

If you are looking for a production folder closely related to a 6, the CQC7B (tanto, plain edge) is the best you can do. It shares a nearly indentical blade, size, and functionality. The difference is the turn down handle versus the boat tail. As noted, Reese Weiland can pimp one for you to have a bolster and boat tail butt that is nearly indistinguishable to the casual eye.

The Raven? Have you ever seen one?

i agree about the raven and the '6 but the '7 isnt anything like a '6 either though, handle is totally different and the blade isnt much like it either.

i think he wants to keep the '6 a little different than everything else.

its usually the concensus opinion of most that the raven is the one, but like i say, i see only a small similarity.

My own experience in laying a 6 next to a 7 - over the span of roughly a decade - is that the blades are virtually identical, the bolsters are very nearly the same (different 'shoulders'), and the length & heft are identical. Carve a boat tail into a 7 and you have a 6 for all practical purposes. I've never heard anyone compare a Raven to a 6 before, but it is not a likely one. The two knives are very different in the hand!

go to the emerson forum and post this question (or do a search)and you'll see plenty of folks bring up the raven as the one most like the '6.

i could easily tell a '7 with a boattail from a '6 imho they arent the same thing. the blade grinds are TOTALLY different for one.

and yes i have both.
