I was hanging out with one of my best friends today, who I've been close to for about three years now. He's always been an outdoorsy type, but for some reason, knives never came up. Well, I was with him at this big sports store today and I mentioned that it's where I bought elizabeth her Scallion...he knew what the knife was and was talking about how cool he thought Speedsafe was...I was really surprised. I asked if he was into knives and he said he used to be a collector pre-college days. He then pulled out his Delica. He isn't like, a super knife guy, but he knows a little and that's pretty exciting. Very few people I know share my hobby. Even my father, son of a knife collector, looks down on it.

Interestingly, this friend of mine is very conservative. I mentioned that I had just bought a Spyderfly (on the subject of Spyderco) and that it was a butterfly knife...I guess I expected him to dislike the idea of a butterfly knife, given the connotation, but he was really interested. He loved the M16 I was carrying too.

Anyway, thought that was pretty cool. Similar experiences anyone?

My cousing (girl) was into knives not to long ago, she stopped buying sometime around when I really got into it. She had a pretty good selection of spydies.

I also sold my friend's mom a Meerkat. Spyderco does some weird things to people. :D

Well, my mom is one that can surprise you. She is a very active 70 years old. She has a Victorinox SAK, a little Boker slip-joint, a Spyderco Delica, Boker TopLock and a SOG Flash 2. She always has a Photon micro-light with her, a Streamlight 3C 10LED light and recently upgraded from a model 36 s/w to a Glock 19. She is a nurse, does tons of volunteer work and does the weekly lunch's with her friends...dont think any of them know about her knife/gun/gadget addiction :)

Yeah, those wily conservatives - you'd never think they would be into balisongs or autos. I've even heard that some of them like guns. :p

When I went to my chiropractor first time, he saw the pocket clip of the Spy Police. I showed it to him, he said "nice", then pulled a Microtech, a Hattori and some other knives out of his bag. It turned out soon, he is a serious collector :)

I had been talking with a new customer of mine, who was wanting to buy some fossils from me, which is what I do for a living, anyway, towards the end of the transaction, he asked if maybe a product like Ren-Wax might help preserve the fossil, I said I didn't know, buit I was surprised he has even heard of Ren Wax since most of the people that know about it collect custom knives, to which he replied, well, I happen to be a serious custom knife collector! So, needless to say, we had a lot to talk about then. :)

I even turned him onto the forums, and he has bought a lot of customs since then in one of the forums, I'd like to think with my help and bad influence. :)

Had he not asked about the Ren Wax, I do not believe we ever would have known we were each into high-end customs, and went our seperate ways, but we have become pretty good friends since then, small world.
