So whaddya like? Gorgeous knives to fondle, caress, admire, carefully carry, preserve reverentially, and brag about?

Or...

A sturdy beater that you are using right now to gut a deer or pry nails out of your computer table while you're typing?

Or....

USING a high end closet queen and sullying her with great satisfaction in her degradation?

;)  :D

Let me ask you this. If you were dating Kate Beckinsale would you put her on a pedestal like a statue, or you know? ;)

Hahahaha, Lavan, you have a way with words, man. I definitely have a tough time with the mere idea of beating up my really nice knives. My customs, I just won't use - until I can afford to have 2 of each.

The third option, although I vote we never use the expression "closet queen" again.

Whadda ya suggest?

........................... GIRLY KNIFE ....................???????

  :p

I like gorgeous knives that I can admire for a while. Then I'm done with looking and I just start using, but never to the point of abuse. If I need to abuse something I reach for my cold steel voyager.

well... different knives for different occations. you would never take a new G35 coupe off-roadin and you would never take your hard used Tacoma to a dinner party. Well you would if you had only one car. but who has only one knife?

all my knives are users but i have to admit my most expensive knife is a mt cmtx5 for 180 or so bucks so its nothing really expensive. i feel if i cant use it, what good is it to me then. even if i got a 500$ knife i would use it. i like stuff built like a tank that can take some abuse

I started out as a collector but turned into a user. At this point I've sold all my queens except a pearl handled Hawes folder. My usual EDC group is:
Strider SMF
Strider SnG
Dwyer SnG
Dwyer SMF

Two are expensive, two are super expensive. I try not to get too crazy with the customs but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. Today for example I was cutting Cat5 cable with my DDC SMF. They take a lickin and keep on kickin.

I mainly buy knives for lookin' at. If there's a knife in my 'accumulation' that I want to carry, I buy another just like it. :)

I use my high-end knives, and so far I have been able to attend to them after use.

Use is not degradation: when I buy a knife from a maker, I tell them that it'll have to work for a living.

These knives, with their dasmascus and ivory, can still TAKE IT.

I like beautiful knives that just get better everytime you use 'em. I wont buy it if I cant seriously use it but, there nothing better than a damn beautiful knife!

I have both users and Queens Now lets talk about Queens

Did you guys get Blade Mag yet next to back page ED Fowler knives
7 of im pg 113
take a look now I know Ed talks about making a user knife.
Would any of you guys use one of these knives ?
Or would they be Queens ???

Fowler makes a LOT of sheep horn handles. They are not my cuppa tea. I wouldn't buy OR use one.

They may be for someone else, but I just don't like em.

:)

what I was trying to say was: Ed is known for making one of the best useing knives in the world. Tough, strong, sharp, etc. I dont think many can dispute that fact.
7 of his knives are selling for 60,000 dollars, now that is lot of money folks !
I looked at 2 of his knives this year at the Denver knife show. The seller wanted 5500 a piece for each of his knives....
If I could afford a knife this expensive, I sure wouldnt be using it .
It would be on a wall somewhere, wired shut so nobody could touch it.
It would be my top Queen

I remember a thread earlier this year where Ed was a little grumpy that people would buy his knives and not use them. Said if he knew that was going to happen, he'd tie it behind his pickup and drag it down the dirt road before shipping it to the customer.
