Someone was telling me that you have to "lif the bee" to close a laguiole, is this true? I have an older cheap one that you can close, its just a bit stiff, but Ive never used the bee to close it. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Im going to go to fedex and pick up the laguiole's I had made, but surely do not want to damage them (they were not cheap).

Thanks,
Sincerely
John

With the Laguiole I have, it would be impossible to lift the bee, at least without a screwdriver or a pair of vise-grips.

you guys are right! I just talked to the laguiole de l artisan company and they said it is called a "half lock" and is not a lockblde at all, but one that has a "partial lock" to help keep it from closing easily on the fingers.

Yeah, my Laguiole has no way to "lift the bee" but it does have the very stiff backspring. There really is no easy way to close them one-handed, but I'm okay with that on a classy folder like the one I have. Just watch your fingers, if you do decide to close them one-handed!

I dont think I would try that, the backspring on these are pretty hefty!!! You could loose something trying that!!
