Does anyone use Break-Free CLP on there blades and then just wipe them off with a napkin before food prep? If so have you noticed any health problems or funky taste on your food? Yes I know of the other food safe options like Frog lube, mineral oil, etc. I'm not interested in an alternative lubricant/preservative, Break-Free CLP is my favorite. I just want to know if it's okay to use for food prep after a good wipe down of the blade. Thanks for the help.

In my opinion you probably aren't going to ingest enough CLP when using the knife for occasional food prep, is it the best thing in the world to do? No. Is it going to kill you or make you deathly ill? Probably not. Here is a link to the MSDS http://tinyurl.com/ncldcdk

Welcome to Blade Forums, someone much more knowlegable than me will be along eventually (to probably shoot my opinion down with that "Science" stuff.)

I have been using CLP on my carbon steel knives and using them for food prep for more than two decades. I just wipe them with a dry paper towel before use and after use. Once clean, I apply CLP and store them. I have never noticed any changes in the food nor has anyone else -- other than my cocker spaniel. She refuses to eat anything that was sliced with a carbon knife; she only eats items sliced with a stainless knife. I thought it might be the CLP, so I tried a brand new 1095 knife without CLP. Nope, it is the carbon steel. Picky dog.

I use clp for maintaining my blades. Prior to use with food I always clean with soap and water and reapply clp afterwards. I just assumed it wouldn't be good for your health.

Probably not any danger in using clp. For me clp has a funky smell that I just wouldn't like to taste. Who knows some may like the taste.

Whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

Leave some dirt on the blade , builds the immune system.

I personally use Froglube... it works very well and is non-toxic and biodegradable. You should look into it, I thought it was hyped when I first started to research it but took the plunge anyway, it was completely work it. A little goes a long way.
