Hi.

As the title say... I bought myself this little thing: http://kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=ZGB001 , a "Zombie Go Boom Wasteland Gladius". So now I'm ready for the apocalypse \o/.

How do I care for this thing properly? I read this https://www.sword-buyers-guide.com/sword-care.html and wiped the blade with some sewing machine oil, and put some on the micarta handle while I was at it.

I read somewhere that it might be bad to store blades in sheath/scabbards for longer periods of time, and that for example leather sheaths might go bad from the oil on the blade.

The sheath it comes with is made of canvas and nylon. Can I store this blade in this kind of sheath, lightly oiled with sewing machine oil (mineral oil) for longer periods of time? Or would it be best to get some kind of wall hanger/display stand?

Any advice on what to do or not to do when it comes to taking care of it?

Thanks.

I don't think storing the blade in the canvas/nylon sheath would cause problems. Wipe the blade down periodically. I do it with a couple Beckers and have had no rust develop.

If your going to store it for long periods of time I'd suggest coating the blade with wax else you should be fine with mineral oil. Just re apply after some time to make sure it hasn't worn off. I wouldn't sheath it if your going to use wax though.

It's 1095. Great steel if properly heat treated. Even a good coating of mineral oil or CLP will protect it. If in very high salt areas Tuff-Glide Marine grade will protect it. I am right on the Gulf Coast and only use the marine grade or better on my folding knives internal parts, even though I don't need to as they hold up well with the basics.

I used Froglube paste because it's food safe and easy to wash off as well and it really works great and if there is anything that works I have not found it,I just heat the blade up a bit with a hair drier and then just brush it on let it cool off then store the knife, look on youtube to see how guys test it,iwhen it comes to firearm's it's a mixed bag of nut's guy's hate it or love it and the guys that hate it don't like it because it can cause the gun to jam upon a semi auto but they complain about rust when you used to keep it away.
