Yes, and?

And what he is saying is you are on this site promoting Clyde, as his proxy, as you have mentioned in the past:

And in recognition that you are creating awareness to the benefit of the maker, it would be a sign of *respect* for you, as proxy, or Clyde himself to consider the small request Spark has made in the linked thread, if you have read it:

Knifemakers - Please support this website with a Knifemaker's Membership

Guys, I hate that I need to say this, but browsing through the various threads, I'm seeing more than a few knifemakers who are posting pictures of their work, and yet they do not have paid subscriptions here.

This site is kept open through paid memberships. If you are going to advertise items that you've made, please do the right thing and purchase the correct level of membership. You can purchase a membership by clicking here or by going to Settings (top right) and then clicking Paid Subscriptions. Knifemaker's memberships are only $60 a year, and you get to advertise your wares for sale in the Knifemaker's area of the Exchange.

Do the right thing. If you can afford a table at Blade, purchase a membership if you are going to be displaying the items you have available. Help keep the site open.

And being respectful tends to carries a lot of weight around here, understandably so. It's a community.
Lorien may have perhaps been a little passive aggressive with his post, and you may have responded in kind as a result, but that doesn't change the validity of his suggestion...

**I see you have edited your post. If Clyde is registered as such then fair enough, my bad.

more passive than aggressive I thought. Is it weird to post the link I posted? Seems pretty mild to me.
Usually I make the membership recommendation using a bunch of words and stuff, but today there are at least 3 threads by forumites who make knives for sale who don't support the site with a membership. There are only so many hours in the day to remind folks to do the right thing.

Nellem, your profile suggests that you work for Challenor Knives, so that's what I based my response to your thread on.

No, doesn't seem weird at all, under the circumstances you described. And apologies for any offence, I was expressing how it may be seen.

I think Clyde is a fantastic knife maker and hope he has every success, so I'd hate to see any hindrance to that here through misunderstanding.

1) Clyde is a knifemaker member.
2) I don"t work for Clyde. I do designs for Clyde (and other makers) and have never charged a cent for it.
3) I make no money from any maker in any way.
4) I do this because Clyde asked me to help with such as he doesn't have time for it but wants people to know that he will be at Blade this year.
5) Will me posting under Clyde's account - pretending to be him - be more acceptable?

Shavenrabbit, for a new guy (also from SA) who joined very recently you sure have put a lot of effort into having a go at me. Interesting.

I think that maybe a way you could approach this which might look better, would be for Clyde to start the thread with a brief intro post and then lean on you to post up pictures for him, (which I know from experience is quite time consuming).

One point that I think is worth making, at the risk of sounding like an ass, is that if a knife maker thinks that using this forum to promote their work is of benefit to him or her, then it follows that it's worth spending a little time putting together interesting threads and having a personal presence.
Relying on surrogates and supporters to do this dilutes interest, since what is important to many collectors is the personality and presence of the knife maker him or herself.

Not having a go at all, not my intention. It's unfortunate you see it that way. I'm aware that the market here in SA is not large enough to sustain custom makers and this is a valuable place for one to gain exposure.

I may not be registered long or post much but have enjoyed some time here, observing (correctly or otherwise) how important respect and relations are to this community. It's not just about knives, it's about knife people. Apologies if you felt attacked.

Those are some cool lookin knives...wouldn't mind coonfingerin 'em:)

Regardless of all the sheriffin' goin' on, it sure is good to see a thread with pictures of knives that fold! :D

Yes I enjoyed seeing the knives as well without all the super saver non moderator modding.

I would like to add the following ...

Clyde has a full-time day-job that keeps him very busy as it is. Knifemaking is a "second job" that he can attend to only when his primary job and family responsibilities have been dealt with. It is the same with me as a designer. Clyde in person cannot be involved here and meet his knifemaking obligations. His order book is closed so what I post here is not to attract business but to inform those interested in his work of what they can expect from Clyde at Blade 2016 (his first show). As some indicated they do appreciate getting the information/photos/updates I post on here. So ... if anyone is still unhappy about it then take it up with the mods and owner(s) to take up with Clyde and I. If I'm in the wrong here from their perspectives then I will stop the updates.
