Pardon my ignorance but is the CMG Infinity Ultra flashlight they sold at countycomm.com same as the one 1sks.com sells? I plan on buying some of these to give as presents and AFAIK, CMG was bought by Gerber and therefore the quality was reduced?

The one sold at County Comm is the Government issue version that is green. The one in your link to 1sks is just a standard Infinity (not even sure if it's an Infinity Ultra) that is listed as black in color. As far as I know, no Government Infinitys are any color other than green.

Over at LEDMuseum there is a lot of info about the Infinity Ultra. I believe the Ultra G has 18,700 mcd and the standard Infinity Ultra sits around 15,000 mcd so the Government edition is brighter, just not that much. If the Infinity at 1sks is just the Infinity and not the Ultra version, then it is only around 7,000 mcd. Keep in mind that these tests are for the white versions so the colors may perform differently.

I bought a couple of the new Gerber Infinity Ultras and they perform very well and if you look around, I'm sure you can find them at a good price.

There might be some dealers who still have pre-Gerber old stock CMGs, but savvy dealers like Countycomm and 1SKS would say so if they did. If it's not advertised as pre-Gerber old stock you'd better assume it isn't.

Are the Gerber light any good? I had heard that they were dimmer than the original - and that one didn't put out a ton of light.

As quoted from TheLEDLight.com:

D] Another favorite has resurfaced, the Gerber Infinity Ultra Task Lights. The Ultras were formerly made by CMG, who were bought by Gerber Gear in 2004. Production of the Ultras stopped during the brand transition until reemerging as the Gerber Infinity Ultra Task Lights. It has essentially gone unchanged other than loss of the LED colors. We stock the dark green, silver and black bodies with white LEDs. We also brought back into stock the Gerber Bonfire Blaze LED Lantern which also has not changed other than for the long winded name.

I have a new version Infinity Ultra by Gerber and the body is not the same, the new ones have a talcap that unscrews for the battery which looks better imo and has a matt black finish. Also the new ones have momentary on off talcaps. You can not tell by looking at them in fact my wife discovered it by accident lol.

All in all a good light but im hooked on the Inova line myself :D
