OK, so I finally got mine today. Actually, it was probably here at 11am, but I didn't get home until 20 min ago.
This comes close to a cheaper SR101 version of the SHBM as we'll ever get. Wow.
It's about 3/4" shorter blade. The clip point is a bit more exaggerated, but not terrible.
The handle feels better than my M6. Maybe it's just that the balance is better. I'll say this, choking up is SPECTACULAR on this knife. Putting your index finger in the choil is so danged natural. Your thumb drops instinctively on the blade-side of the "bump" or the web of your hand is secure on the handle side. WOW!
This doesn't seem to be a zero edge. It is VERY sharp, but the grind on the edge bevel is pretty rough. Not Hairy Carry rough, but not zero-edge smooth. Do I care? NOPE! It's sharper than I'll ever get it again.
The hamon (sp?) line is AWESOME. Just a thing of beauty.
WOW! What a great knife.
Here are some pix:
Side-by-side with the SHBM for size reference.
Here it is OVER the SHBM. It's deceiving. It doesn't look as wide as the SHBM, but it is.
Finally, here is a side-by-side spine shot. The M9 is .235. The SHBM is .270. I didn't line up the choils or nuttin, so ignore the fact that hte thumb-placement is not lined up. The grips mic out to about teh same width as the SHBM, but all dimensions seem .35" thinner, given the blade is that much thinner. The M9 grips are curved spine-to-edge better, making it a bit more comfortable in the hand.
Overall, I'd ahve to say this is, feel-wise, almost a SHBM. Sort of a bit like a Basic 9 as well, given the slightly shorter blade. VERY light and quick. If you are looking to pack a big knife that feels good in the hand and can chop and slice as well, this is a good choice.
