well, i got lucky.

its a rather long story but because of some outdated paperwork at the CMP office i ended up with two service grade winchester garands. im sure not to many people keep up with the supply of garands but just recently CMP recieved a shipment of 250 winchester garands, 55 international harvesters, and a hand full of VAR barreled danish return springfields. they sold out in 2 days, on the 24th to be exact of the winchesters and springfields.

on the 25th i found the site:mad: what a bummer to find out that i missed out on the winchesters.

i had been waiting for several months (90 day backorder) on the springfield service grade guns. on the 26th i got a call from CMP saying that i left my email address off my paperwork and that they were ready to fill my order. as a after thaught i decided to pay the extra 200 each and get the var barreled garands.

3 hours later i got a call back, the lady on the other end said that her paperwork was outdated and that they were out of both the origonal guns that i ordered and the var barreled guns and that i was going to have to wait up to 90 more days.

at this point, not wanting to repeat another kahr arms fiasco i would settle for 3 lesser grade garands in place of two nice ones as long as i could get them with in a week. as a side thaught i asked about winchesters, turns out they had field grades but they were pricy for a gun that i would have to replace the barrels on anyhow. HOWEVER, she said sence ive been waiting so long for my origional order that she would bump me to the head of the line for the winchester service grades, as long as i dint tell any body:D

so 1400 dollars later i found out today that they were shipped and should be here tommarow or the next day:p the funny thing is that there already selling on the auction sites for 1500-2000 each.

ive just got one problem, after last years high power seasion all i have is one enblock clip of soft point 30-06, one enblock of fragmentory 30-06, several of ww2 AP ammo, and two boxes of 1944 m2 ball ammo. i never restocked because im switching to a m16 for this year. i guess ill have to wait until after the next gunshow to shoot them.

ill post pictures of my otheres when they get here. for the time being heres my first garand. im addicted.

Way too COOL!
Thanks for sharing KaBar... I wish I had your knowledge, bank account and gun collection! Congrats on your two new babies.:D

Looks like after 1903.

although this mentions 1962.

and before 1996

The stick on badge looks like Fascal self adhesive vinyl which is consistent with early 70s.

I'll do some more searching tomorrow and see if I can nail that badge itself.

Nice rifles BTW. The closest I have being from England is a Garand clip filled with inert ammo. I liked the ker-ching from the film Band of Brothers!

I went to a local gun show yesterday, and saw probably at least a half dozen Garands. Prices ranged from ~$600 to $900. Since I don't have that much money and don't know squat about how to tell if they are any good or not, I didn't look at any of them too close.:( The ISRA had one on raffle that looked pretty good though...

most you see at gunshows are shotout mix masters, a good one is going to run atleast 500 from cmp, 1000 at the gunshow/gun stores. you can pretty much doubble what you would pay for a cmp gun if you buy the same gun else where.

my first gun cost 800 and would be considered a 350 rack grade. field grades go about 800-900 on the open market, there good shooters but you will have to replace the barrel with in a few thousand rounds.

you also have to look for rewelds and such. ive got a reweld in peices right now that i used to revamp the winny. not to sure what im going to do with it. ive got enough parts to rebuild it but im not crazy about the reciever and the barrel aint up to par for match shooting any more.

just placed another order to cmp. this time around im going springfield SG, 2 H&R recievers to use up my spair parts, and one national postal m1 carbine reciever.
