I'm looking for some files I can load into a CNC to cut out some PM2, Smock, Manix2, etc scales. I'm learning to CNC and I think it would be fun to see if I can make anything that I would want to put on one of my knives. I've seen some threads about this on the Spyderco forums, but I haven't ever seen the actual files attached. If you have these files and would be willing to share it would be greatly appreciated. Attached are some custom wood scales. I can only dream of getting this good.

Idk. I thought this would be a popular topic. It appears that I was incorrect. Don't people want to customize their knives in this way?

You aren't limited to wood. The sky is the limit for micarta or anything.

Hi Marcus,

Yes, it' a popular topic and yes, there are many knife folks doing that. But there are quite a few aftermarket scale makers for most Spyderco models. Lots to choose from and folks are just buying them. Some are making their own, but the majority seem to prefer to purchase already made pieces available in many materials.

Many of the "Mule Team" group build their own, but often from scratch. There too, are available ready made scales to fit Mule Teams.

Thanks for the response. I had seen some interest in this on the Spyderco forums, but didn't see any digital files attached. I'm guessing you have access to some pretty clean files.

Care to help me out with a PM2 and Manix 2 XL cnc files so I can cut a few for myself? I'm learning to use a cnc at a maker's space and this would be a real banger of a first project, if I had the files from you.

I just got back from Blade Show, where I picked up a crucarta Manix 2 XL, and would love to make some scales out of some of the amazing materials that I also picked up at the show. And, of course, the PM2 is my favorite knife, so as I continue to collect those in different metals it would be awesome to be able to cut different scales out of premium materials and of my own design.

I would have also picked up an Autonomy 2, but the rules about selling auto knives at shows ruined that. I'm looking for one now, but they seem a little hard to find. I'm interested to hear your thoughts.

I think what I'm going to do is use the app Polycam. It takes 20-30 pictures that you take with your phone and creates a digital 3D model. I will then work on converting that to the file type needed for the CNC I have access too. So within a few days, hopefully I will have produced the files that I was asking for in the OP.

This is probably for the best, as now I will be able to mod them much better than files I acquired from another source. I'm guessing that there could be some fitment issues that I will have to overcome. With any luck, it will be only sandpaper adjustments.

Does anyone have the specs for all of the hardware for a PM2
and a Smock? Screw lengths and head sizes, barrel sizes, stand offs, etc. Fine, fine...I'll measure all of that myself too. I get to feel like I'm the first on Everest, even though many have been here before me.
