AWB Poll

May be time to get your vote in before midnite Pacific time.

Should AWB be renewed?

27% YES

73% NO

Link didn't seem to lead to a pertinant story.

Too early anyway, as I recall, the "sunset" is a few months away. The cynic in me says that they are trolling for "gun-nuts" to use as an exhibit in the real media blitz to come with the intent of garnering support for the renewal of the ban. Call me jaded.

Arm everyone! Sure, it might be a little "Wild West" for a while, but those Columbine kids would got theirs in the first few seconds. As for terrorists, they'll pretty much be relegated to blowing themselves up,

Arm everyone sound a bit weird? I'd rather have my daughter have a chance at defending herself against some dudes who would roll up in a car and try to grab her. Or against soem messed up vindictive boyfriend, or whatever. No, Guns aren't the answer. but if folk are gonna be insane to one another, this is a way to mediate insanity.

I'm sure that the folks who fought the "War to End All Wars" are disappointed in things today, mainly because they saw their sacrifices as freely given for the prosperity of their wonderful country. Now ya got nutballs trashing it on the local level.

Until respect for life is valued again, or just Respect, it will be hard times.

(ps--this is sorta tounge-in -cheek, dunno if I really believe in arming everyone...)

Thousands of violent assaults, rapes, and murders are stopped due to armed citizens who happen to be there when something bad happens. There is some wepage related to FBI crime stats that report this. I know that if I were a mugger/rapist/murderer, I wouldn't want to risk having a .45 slug in my head. If anyone were stupid enough to risk it, oh well, the trash was taken out.

Before the ban, high priced "assault weapons" were rarely used in violent crimes, no gangbanger would ever spend $400+ on a "gat". After the ban passed, the guys in LA should have been proof enough when they used AK's that the ban doesn't disarm bad guys. I mean, they're criminals who don't obey the law or respect the law or life, so why do these blind voters think that somehow because "assault rifles" were made illegal, that all the bad guys would turn their stuff in. It perpetuates ignorance, disarms the people who respect laws and life, and does nothing to curb crime. All it does is give the feel good liberals a sense that they've done something, a placebo effect, when in reality they've done nothing constructive.

I used to live in a gang heavy neighborhood, plenty of stuff listed as banned and illegal there, but the owners of said items didn't seem to mind.

Poll was 76% NO at 6:17 CST this morning.

BTW, what is an assault weapon? My HI K's might qualify. In my younger days, my right fist qualified for certain.

I could take my belt off and strangle someone, or maybe just throw a shoe at someone's head...

I have this special rock in the back yard that would qualify. I hope I'm not forced to turn it in to the authorities.

Arm everyone.

except violent felons, ex felons, and the mentally unfit. As a matter of conscience I'm assuming all those who are for gun bans will remain unarmed.

Just tried to vote, and got 'Not Found'. Being naturally suspicious, I tried voting 'yes', also. Fortunately for my blood pressure, that failed, too.

Along the 'arm everybody' line, I lean in the same direction, myself. There are several books by L. Neil Smith ("The Probability Broach" and "Venus Belt", that describe an alternate reality that had done exactly that. Since Mr. Smith is VERY libertarian, the society is successful. The genre is science fiction. His books are very well written.

I no longer have any "assault weapons." Since September 11, 2001 they have been reclassified as "homeland defense weapons." :p

Now, that's good.

just think, no ban. threaded muzzles. price dropping out of preban stuff. folding stocks. In short, life will be pretty much the same but with some small changes.

I guess because of it's preban 4" threaded replacement barrel my Berretta 950 25 auto is now an assault weapon.

OH no, Rag, no way, no how. We will get features, and more mag capacity, but prices fall? In your dreams. In fact, with the initial demand for such features, new production will probably be 200 bucks over current price.

But what will fall is pre ban stuff. I don't know about you, but paying 1200 to 2500 for a preban Colt was nonsense.

I agree Munk. I hope it goes away, but in reality the AWB sunset wouldn't affect me at all...

You would think that our government would learn after while but, it sure seems that it doesn't.

Almost everything that I can think of that the government has banned has made some folks very rich and the item banned is still around if anything was more abundant.:)

I would like to know how private industry came to insist upon shipping handguns next day air or nothing. That has hurt a lot of gunsmiths.

I have some animosity for UPS.
