Well, to put it plainly.....your gona wonder why you did't go with gas a long time ago! After using coal, a gas forge will seem like your "cheating"! :D

There will be some adjustment time for you, such as getting used to whatever you stick into the forge is going to get hot! Working with coal, you have that small "hot spot", maybe 2" in diameter, whereas in gas, the whole thing will reach the temp you set up for. I really think it's great to be able to weld 10" at a time versus the 1-2" I was able to weld in coal. You will also have to learn to watch for different indicators when the steel is ready (but after a bit it will become automatic)
I suppose the best part about gas for me was that when the day was over, I didn't have to take all of my clothes off outside the back door before the wife would let me in the house!

On a more serious side, get in the habit of checking all the propane fitting with soapy water at least a couple times a week! I watched a fella literally blow the windows out of his shop because of a propane leak. As with all the machines we use, if you respect it, you'll have a long a wonderful relationship!

I hope my welding are better soon !!!
my last piece of damascus is....horrible( temperature was too low for welding !!!)
thank you again!
