Hey guys, over at my school we have to get a written recommendation from our teachers to send to the colleges we're applying to. Well, I asked my calculus teacher, and she said she'd be happy to write one. Since it's Christmas time, I thought I'd make her a gift to show my gratitude, but I couldn't make her a knife sheath no matter how much I would've liked to, so I settled for making her a set of 3 coasters.

Also, once again, sorry for the shitty pictures. Damn fujifilm can't do these things justice, but you'll get the general picture.

Initials are a bit off center, either that or the weave is off pattern.

What is film?
Just kiddin.....nice job, my wife has been after me to make some..along with place mats.....

Maybe make a circle round the initials next time so the basket weave has something to end to(?)

Yeah, that'd definitely help. This was only my 2nd attempt at doing any tooling and more specifically the basketweave, so I'm assuming I'll get a little better with the spacing and such.
For water resistance, I know saddleback leather uses that Chamberlain's leather milk which I don't have. All I have is mink oil. Will that do the job you think? I'll probably order the Chamberlain's with some Christmas money later this month.

Mink oil will work, heating them up with a hair dryer (or toaster oven) and working in some beeswax will also work.

Or, a few coats of spray acrylic clear will also make them water resistant.

What did you do for the rear of the coaster? On mine I glued on a layer of cork board then finished with a layer of self adhesive felt.

Here are my first 2 attempts at coasters for some friends.
