I woudl like to get her something that is well insulated, waterproof, and windproof in case she would break down somewhere between here and her parents.

Don't want a lot of bulk, but understand can't have well insulated without some bulk to it.

Looking for a driving coat size, not waist-length jacket.

Integral hood preferred.

I'm going to start looking, but just curious if any of you might have some first hand pros/cons for various makers/models.

She presently wears a decent Eddie Bauer model (yeh yeh, I know, but it has held up well, and done a good job so far), but I want something I feel will protect her better should the need arise.

Thoughts???

Well,
I just purchased a Kitanica Mark I, but I'm guessing that's not what your looking for. I did alot of research into what I wanted, and before I found out about Kitanica, I was very close to purchasing a Arc'teryx Alpha or Theta Jacket. Like I said, I did a ton of research, about 6-8 months of reading on who was the best, and Arc'teryx consistently came up. You might want to look at TAD gear as well. FYI, I'm a US Marine who beats the shit out of his clothes, and I need/want ultra tough gear. The Alpha jacket is a outer layer, and in severe cold should be worn with a fleece as a base layer (I was going for an Atom LT for this) . I should also add that I haven't recieved my Mark I yet. The company consists of three guys, which is great, as I have a direct line to the big bosses! However, that means I have to wait a bit longer for my coat, as they had to sew a new one in my size...

It's hard to find extreme weather gear that's comfortable for driving. I keep a full set of Refrigiware in the trunk. Coat, bib and boots.

rustoleum? mountain gear makes really good stuff that costs a lot less than brands like the north face and arc'teryx. or you could always get her this.

Go to your local fur store.

Rabbit/mink (depending on budget) reversible, with leather.

Thank me later.

For what its worth, I keep one of these in both of my cars.

Coleman 3-in-1 blanket

The "hood" is worthless but the blanket/poncho is weatherproof and can be used to keep more than one person warm in an emergency.
