Hello,

I've been out of the INFI loop for a while, but I see some models I really like. The Meaner Street and Game Warden to be exact. I had a beautiful custom shop AD for time, but sold it to a gentleman here on the forum.

The coated Meaners and GW seem to be a little more affordable than the Custom Shop models, but do you guys notice any significant advantage with the Custom Shop finish compared to the crinkle? I am thinking the crinkle in a small blade would cause friction and not function as well as the Custom Shop. Could anyone either confirm or dispell this?

Best Regards,

the tan coating tends to be grittier, so may hinder cutting through thick objects or media.

the od seems to be the smoothest, and the black in the middle.

for the vast majority of every day cutting tasks, id be surprised if you observed a noticeable difference.

blade thickness would be more of a factor in cutting ability than the coating i would think.

welcome back!!!

The tan does smooth out quickly, so after a few uses, you won't notice any grittiness at all. IMO, tan is also the most durable.

Satin will always slice better, but like Mark said the blade thickness is even more important.

The thin one's are very hard to find though. But, thats what I look for.

I get the coated and then strip them myself. I'm not fond of coatings, and uncoated blades cut better in my experience. As has been said already, the thickness of blade is going to be the largest influence on slicing abilities.

For my uses on EDC-sized blades I have not noticed a difference in ease of cutting with coated vs. uncoated blades. I don't use my knives for a living (meaning A LOT) so I may not be the best judge of cutting performance. I will concur with others who suggest the edge geometry is the more prominent factor in cutting performance on the EDC-sized Busses.

Thank for gentlemen for your helpful responses!

With any luck, I'll have a Meaner and Wardon (both Black on Black) on the way soon!
