Coating chipping

How tough is the coating on Busse knives, in general? The reason I'm asking is because I just got a Basic 11, which is my first Busse, and after some use my coating is starting to chip/scratch off pretty bad. Granted, it's chopping type use that I'm talking about, but I figured it would hold up a little better than that. Or, is this pretty typical?

Some colors seem to be tougher than others.
I dont mind the wear at all,
Busse Beauty Marks
Gives the knife character.
as a side bonus,as the finish wears off
the knife will be lighter
and thus slice through the air with greater speed
and thusly chop even better than when all nice and new!

very typical if choppin. No biggie though, if you ever retire her, send it to busse along with I think $40 and they will make it look brand spankin new again.

***added- Do you have black? My non black models such as tanker/green seem to rub more then chip. My black cgfbm though, man that sucka chipped and I loved it, looked hardcore :D Eventually stripped her though.

Yeah, it's black. I should add, this isn't a negative comment on the knife or anything. It's a fearsome damn beast, that's for sure. I just wanted to know if it was a cause for concern or not.

In my experience Jungle Green holds up better than the black crinkle. The old tan and smooth black are very durable too.

My Black B11 has worn quicker than my other Bussekin. It hasn't chipped just rubbed down. Won't hurt a thing with some coating loss.

Hard use marks appeal to many .... the other option is to strip the knife ..... either is good ....

You're already using her huh? That was quick! In my experiences, the black coating usually chip, wear, and strip easier. The other coatings not so much. I once had an Leprechaun FFBM and even paint stripper wouldn't get the coating off...

Not to reiterate what others have already said, but it seems as though the rougher finishes don't wear as "gracefully" as the smoother. The black CG finish seems to be a little rougher for whatever reason and comes off much easier. I've got a sage SARsquatch that I've split logs with numerous times and its' coating has only smoothed out, but it's still clinging to the blade.

When they're new, the coatings wear pretty easy. I remember when my NMSFNO (tanker grey) was new and I was cutting heavy duty cardboard boxes and it streaked real bad. But, when you beat the hell out of her a little, the top coat wears off and the stuff that is left is usually pretty tough stuff.

Yeah, once the handle hit my hand... it was all over! :D

They will wear with use, especially chopping.

Part of what happens when you chop wood, is you get bits of wood that really get embedded in the finish, and I think some times this stuff gets pulled off when chopping.

I have had this happen a bit.

I don't worry about it. I have had all sorts of coated knives, and have yet to have a finish that did not wear/chip a bit under heavy use like chopping, or battoning.

I always strip my user Infi eventually anyway, so I actually don't care about the worn finish.

I would care more if infi was not so rust resistant. If it was a rust aggressive steel, I would care more.
