Anybody ever had a problem with this? I was sharpening a practically new CGFBM with a Sharpmaker, and it started taking flakes of coating off (approx. 1 cm long)
The coating was definitely not stuck on very well, and after deciding to see how bad it was, I ended up with a large spot of coating gone. The rest of it was stuck on pretty well. Anyway, I decided to just strip all the coating off. Any suggestions on easy ways to polish this monster?

I've had the coating chip from the spine at the very tip of the blade before, which seemed odd given the light use, but otherwise no probs.

What is the CGFBM color coating? I've got a SJTac in Urban Grey that had a piece flake off. I've also read others mention the same with their Urban Grey.

The coating on my Heavy Heart flaked off, but I had to pound it through a tree or two to get it to happen!

The paint on my brand new Urban Grey CGFBM flaked off while having a pair of pants made for it and Busse quickly replaced it with another one without any hassles whatsoever. I myself prefer satin finish, but those are not easy to find.

Were you sharpening the coating or the edge? :p Just go to Wal Mart and get that spray on stripper, it strips instantly (about 15 seconds). I've had chipping with Urban Grey coatings and Olive drab. I've never used a black crinkle knife or the camos but Tan seems to just smear a bit. It's the heartiest one.

Even when all your coating starts to come off, your knife is still protected by the undercoatings, they come off when you use stripping agents though.

mostly the coating right at the edge (trying to thin the edge out a bit).

I dropped my CGFBM by accident on a concrete floor. (The day I got it.) It impacted once on the skull crusher and again on the tip.

I thought - oh ####, you fool!!! The edge is probably bent, chipped, buggered - etc. ALL that happened was a tiny bit of coating departed the blade at the two points of impact. Nothing bent, chipped, or broken....

These bits of missing coating are a badge of honour. In further abusive instances, this knife has held up like a tank. Just wait till it all falls off then spray paint her. Then use more, resharpen and repeat. Don't worry about the coating, it's the steel that makes this a beast of a knife! :)
