coating on carbon knives

I prefer a sisal wheel and an extra fast cutting stainless steel compound. Assuming you don't have access to bead blasting.

soak it in break fluid for a day or so. the coating will flake off with a toothbrush.

I'm guessing paint stripper will work. It worked on my RC-3MIL, and they do some of the toughest coating in the biz. I just gooped it on to the blade, wrapped it in a plastic bag so it wouldn't evaporate off. and about 30 minutes later the coating was just falling off on its own. there were a few spots that I must not have applied it evenly that I had to scrub off with some steel wool. but it was pretty darn simple

When finished, how about an update on the results?

i plann on making an entire thread on just that. i want to do either curl birch or cocobolo handle scales. (any advice on this would be helpful)

but i start college tomorrow so it looks like it might take a little to get it all done. or even started.

bead blasting tends to show wear faster, but i think it gives the knife character. and yes it does make the knife more likely to rust.
