Coating on Shadow III?

I was using my shadow III to split some cedar pieces I had for a fire. Now I must note that I did not even need to baton through this wood, I could just wiggle the blade a little, and then just push it through. I have noticed that the coating is wearing off the blade where I have been passing it through the wood. Is this normal for such a light duty task?
I love this knife and would not want to see it any different as a hard user, but maybe it will become a drawer favorite and I will pick-up a Rat-3 for the harder stuff.
Let me know your thoughts, THANKS.

Wood is abrasive- This is normal for a user. Use it it won't hurt anything as long as you can keep it wiped down and apply a thin coat of oil to keep the rust at bay.

BHYDE is right! anything with a coating WILL come off. i had a 2500.00 Les Baer with a special finish that wore off on the holster areas, you cant get around it.
