Guys, After wanting to play with hammers and hot stuff for many years I had a go at forging a small blade over the weekend. I had a large bolt hanging around that I was able to anneal in my BBQ with a fan on the coals
The next day I reheated with a blow torch and was able to flatten it pretty well. I then spent the next four or so hours filling and deciding what to do and finally decided on a small Tanto point letter opener with a 30 deg. I then dropped it in the BBQ again and got it a nice bright orange and quenched it, then reheated and allowed it to cool (was well below the lower transformation temp I hope
) All the quenching was a kind of graduation present for getting through a metalurgy book which took me 20 hours or 2 weeks worth of commutes on the damned train
)
Anyway after polishing it for about two hours I noticed it starting to rust :footinmou (Of all the rotten luck!)
Are there any 'home remedies' for coating a blade without spoiling all the polishing I did (Fingers are still sore and blistered lol)
TIA
