Okay, i read that bm coating wears fast, and i didnt like color or wear resistance of pvd, dlc on my cs recon holds great, thank you all to help me to decide on buying one. Speaking of color, the dlc on that one reflects light much more, it is not matte black. Cerakote on my 810 didnt impress too much, i thought it wouldnt wear easy, looked cool, though. M4 on that contego was getting rust concomitantly, so i think one should have get m4 blade surfaces polished before cerakote applying making a knife with that steel. I understand bm wouldnt make it on serial production, the steel is too hard.
I like the look of regular bm coating even more, it is dark matte black, so i have got some questions:
Does it wear faster than FeSO4 treated blade would do? If it stands longer, then is that a big difference? Does the solution always make blade look same dark matte black? Is it more resistant than a coating one can make by that orthoposph. acid that cocacola contains? Maybe someone has a pic of those side by side. Is dlc always that reflective? I mean, i have seen hinderers, the matte black dlc is fantastic, but it is not dark in no way being compared to the dlc of recon one. So, can it be both matte and dark at the same time? Thanks!

I think the angle you hold your knife at has a lot to do with this. If you keep it just right the glint will have a surprisingly pleasing result.

There is some reflection by matte coatings, but comparing them with polished dlc is kinda polished vs beadblasted titanium difference! Beadblast really reflects much less.

Really depends on the size of the media used for blasting. Very different from a matte finish that was traditional used to avoid reflecting light till the current trend of matte paint on vehicles came to be.

For stainless, I like "The Works" toilet bowl cleaner cut with a bit of hydrogen peroxide. nice and matte. Least reflective surface I've been able to get. More grey than black. Give it 10 minutes, it etches fast. Be careful around the fumes (or don't, they feel sort of nice) Wears nicely.
