Cobalt 6 and airport security

FYI to all--
I walked a David Boye billet of cobalt alloy--between 8.5 and 9 ounces--through two security gates. One at an airport, one at a courthouse. No alarms were set off. I had the airport security attendant check the billet with her wand, and it produced faint beeps when the wand actually contacted it. But obviously, the material produces only a very faint magnetic signature--only 3% iron, according to Deloro Stellite.

Sweet I have to try that one of these days

That is pretty awsome...

Hmmmm.... let's try to keep this low-key, shall we? Please! I wouldn't want Boye's knives to get outlawed, especially before I can buy one...

What kind of edge/point retention does this knife have? And just out of curiousity, what is the price range?

I work for the airlines and carry knives with me everyday. I go thru Magnetometers at almost every airport in the USA. Magnetometers look for magnetic signatures that Stellite/Talonite and Titanium don't produce or produce at a very low rate. I had Kit Carson make me a special knife with a 3 1/2 inch Stellite blade with "all" titanium hardware. Your bars are just that, a normal knife has steel pivot pins, backstop pin, screws, pins, pocket clip etc that are all detectable. My knife went undetedcted for 4 months but was found in Burbank Airport. Even though the knife is legal I just didn't want any hassles from the rent a cops. My uniform has alot of metal on it and my Justin Roper work boots have steel shanks in them and thats why I usually can't make it thru without getting wanded. Beware that the hand held wands will pick up everything!!!!!!!!! There are also new machines coming on line that just measure mass on your body, so they don't even look for magnetic signatures. I would recommend that if you try to hide it just be careful to make sure it's legal even if they find it. I would suggest anything with a 3 inch blade or less with absolutely no serrations. I get a little extra leeway in uniform. Hope this helps.

More on this thread on Reviews forum. It wasn't a blade--just a billet.

Thanks, CJ. My Justins always give me away.

A really good "sniffer" does not only check magnetic pattern but also "eddy currents", that will indicate ANY metall, including bullion....
Kind regards
