Cobalt Special MT09 Question?

I picked up a Cobalt Special Mule Team and am curious about the steel. I read the description from Spyderco, and searched through BF the forum on the Spyderco website and have not found much describing what this steel can do. Given the geometry etc of the mule team knives what are the properties, positive and negative of this steel, again in its current form as a mule team knife. My use of knives revolves around food prep, opening boxes, and processing big game...read elk and deer. I have experience with M4, D2, and A2 for these tasks, and with s30v and cts20cp for food prep and light daily use. So I feel like I have some idea of what I those steels can do for my intended use.

So if I had a mule team knife in the five steels I have listed above, how would the cobalt special steel perform for me in my world of use in comparison? Would I need to worry about sharpening it half way through an elk? If I hit a bone would that be cause for major concern? How does it compare to the others when touching it up if I do need to sharpen in the field? Will a polished edge serve me better, or one that is less polished?

By the way I put the option 4 scales from Halperin Titanium on this knife and really love the way it feels in my hand.

Thanks in advance for any and all responses.

My knife usage is pretty far from yours, but I rather liked the Cobalt Special when I was carrying it. I don't recall encountering any chipping, and edge retention was quite good. I've never gone to the trouble of high polishing edges, so I can't help you there. Judging by its performance on drywall and particle board, I think it will serve you well on game.

Thanks Yab. Drywall and partical board is a different use but probably a good indicator of toughness, so your reply is helpful. BTW, do you still have your mule team cobalt, and if not why did you get rid of it?

I still have two of each from the beginning. I've just been carrying the M390 since I sent my Cruwear mules back, since it was at the top of the pile.
