was wondering what is the purpose of the cobra hood on the ATR?? just looks?? is the hood added on the blade, its not integral w/the blade is it?? is it just screwed on?? or? anyone got any good pics??

really like the ATR's looks, will prob break down and get an ATR and a persian too.

thanks

greg

AFAIK the cobra hood is just screwed on (it is on the Salsas anyway). The purpose is to increase the ease of opening and provide a wider thumb rest, so you can apply more pressure in the cut. Works well on both counts.

The Cobra Hood really does make the ATR more comfortable to hold and easier to open. A very nice extra feature. If the cobra hood had not ever been "invented", you might not miss it, on the ATR. But once you use it, you will realize the additional comfort it provides.

I dig the cobra hood. I don't have this model but I do have a couple of Salsa's and I love the addition. I have always loved the opening "disk" (like on the Emerson's and the Benchmade Stryker, or Crawford Point Guard, et al), this is like taking the spyderco hole and adding the function of the opening disk.

Spyderco could put this on every model and I would be happy...

Um, I take that back, the Cobra Hood and the Gunting... That might be a problem

I roger that last point!

Yes to the Cobra hood on the Gunting! You don't want to hurt the guy when you kinetically open it on him =D
