Cobra scales?

Hi everyone :)

I was thinking of using my cobra skin for my next project but would the scales be too fragile for it to be used as an overlay?

I was thinking of applying some glue or lacquer to the surface to coat it but has anybody tried this before?

Thank you for your help! :)

The tanning method would be the key, I think. If tanned properly it should be okay at least for a sheath to be used more for dress occasions. It would be even more ideal as an inlay, using veg tan to take most of the use and abuse. Remember, in it's original state it was tough enough for the Cobra;)

Fantastic thanks Paul! :)

I'll just go ahead and give it a go in that case. If its good enough for a death dealing venom rope I'm sure its good enough for me!

Do it. Snake looks amazing. I picked up a 7' python skin for inlays. Not sure how it compares to cobra, but seems durable enough. I wouldn't use it for a sheath to work oil fields. But would think anything with a nice inlay would be used a bit easier. I could only find a pic of my first inlay attempt, and this was the worst and least colorful part of the entire skin.

Thanks bflying! I'll probably use it as an inlay in that case :)

Lovely work you've made there too. Nice sheath!
