I have just finish two knives one with Cocobola and the other with Thuya Burl. What is the best way to finish these handles? I don't like the way super glue looks (plastic).

Maybe you should try a hand rubbed paste wax finish and do your final polish with a clean loose buff. Looks good and an occasional touch up with paste wax keeps it nice.

Since both woods are very oily, you likely will want to use Teak Oil. It works best on such woods, but it is a slow process since the coats are thin and you have to let it dry overnight, and 24 hours is better. If you reapply before the previous coat is completely dry, you'll just redissolve it and be back where you were the day before. The results, however, can be beautiful. I like both those woods, and will be finishing up a knife in cocobolo tomorrow.

I use danish oil and canaubawax on suchs woods. Let it soak for as long as possible - I leave it in there for about 12 hours - then let it dry. At roomtemp that will take maybe 4 hours. Then the wax is applied with a buffer. It's a very hard wax so it has be a little warmed up. I use a 4 inch buffingwheel and my handheld drill.

Not likely on the boat shop. You need to find a good woodworking supplier. There are some online I think. I just did a cocobolo handle today, and used teak oil with a little japan drier to speed it along. Looks nice.

Nice thing about this finish is that it keeps the cocobolo looking good. Otherwise it tends to darken with age.

If all else fails, call Highland Hardware in Atlanta. They sell and ship anywhere.

Good luck,
