Here's a newer project of mine in the works; a tanto and wharncliffe inspired design. It is about 3/32 thick and 9" long featuring a tapered and lightened tang, it will be very sleek and fast. I have been saving this cocobolo for something nice, it has a colorful tropical look to it. Right now I'm waiting on my etcher and then I'll do a bit more finishing, glue up and then shape the scales.

This one is going to a member but I might make another for myself! :D

I had a funny thumb ramp on it the day I profiled it, it looks way better with jimping instead.

Now I have the pre heat treat grind done and it is looking good!

the blade is hazy in this photo, I had it soaking in Ballistol

The copper pins and cocobolo are going to look great together!

The scales are rough still, I mocked them up so you can see how the handle will look.

I really like the way the grain works with the lines of the knife.

I'll get some more photos as I finish this one up. :D

Excellent! I like this one so much I might make a few more, it has a big knife feel but is so quick in the hand. I'm supposed to get my new etcher in a few days and when I do I'll have some more progress!

Nice ones. I really like the third one... Good point and long belly. It will be good for lots of uses.

Thanks! I'll be saving a template of that one.

I trimmed down the poon tips a bit because they were too crazy. I heat treated part of this batch yesterday.

Here's that thinner cleaver I was telling you about and another from the same bar of steel. They are 1095 steel for a nice hamon. I did a full convex on the clip point for something wild, it will be a slicer.

Good Vid mate. Good to see someone else runs Tool on the shop radio. Best grinding music ever!

sweet etcher is finally in :D looks good, how etched does it get? I end up giving blades satin finishes and .... erasing the makers mark on some knives.. eek! DEEP ETCH - check!

I was hesitant to get an etcher because I have seen the shallow etches you speak of. I did a bunch of research and got the best etcher I could find, it actually etches deeper than my stamp.

I can go shallow or just black on the surface but I like the deeper etch. The machine I have will etch or mark, I am trying a deep etch then put it on mark to blacken it. I have to say I am very happy with the results.

I love that etch! I need to get one that goes deeper for the dirty finish I put on mine. Nice blades too.

I'm using the Personalizer Plus and I really like it. I'm using the electrolyte solution that came with it and I think it works well. I also tried salt water and it was very aggressive but I think slow and low power is the way to go.

Thanks!

Looks great daniel! How come you didn't bring the scales up all the way?

Thanks Tim!

I'll have to get an in hand pic for the design to make sense, the design is inspired by one of my favorite knife makers.

Or do you mean the finish? 1000 grit then renaissance wax, that's about all I know to do with cocobolo.

Thanks for asking! :D
