Ok, I don't do too much gaming anymore, but every once in a while I like to sit down at my computer and play a little online first person shooter. I've been playing COD Modern Warfare One for some time and with the popular release of COD Black Ops decided to treat myself to some new software.

I was under the assumption, from what I'd read that my current system could handle the new game, but it's been crashing on me and it looks like it's the graphics card. I run an AMD Athalon 64 X2 Dual Core 5600+ at 2.90 GHZ with 4 GHZ of RAM and an ATI Radeon HD 4670 graphics card that runs at 512 MB. I haven't bought a new graphics card in a while and was hoping somebody could point me in the direction of a new card that will do what I need it to do without breaking the bank. I think this card was close to $400 when I got it just over a year and a half ago and now you can get it for under $100!! What should I go with?

Or..........is there a way to get this game running with my current setup? I've got the latest drivers for the graphics card, so that's already been tried.

Thanks!

You could play with reduced settings in the game.
I have starcraft 2 and my graphics car is the minimum required even though I bought it at the same time the game came out. I can't play starcraft 2 at full settings or it lags. Lower the settings and it runs fine.

The box should have the minimum and the preferred requirements for the game. If you are going to buy a new card see what the box recomends as the minimum/preferred card level.

Most pc gamers (including myself) have been massively disappointed with black ops because of the lag. Even those with powerful rigs (myself included) are getting lag spikes and rubber banding. You're just going to have to wait for infinity ward to patch it.

Ok, that's kind of what I was thinking. My setup is not outdated by any means as far as I can tell. I already tried lowering the settings and had mixed results. Gameplay was still very spikey and the system crashed a couple of times. Would turning off antialiasing help at all. That's one setting I've never known the details about.

Thanks for the input guys!

Yeah, they're already producing the patch as we speak; it's dicey for us pc gamers for sure.

Anti aliasing essentially smooths all of the edges in the game so the higher you go (i think it goes as high as 32X for some newer games - I could be wrong though) the smoother everything will look.

If the problem wasn't actually that the engine black ops is running off is flawed, then yes, turning anti aliasing down will greatly reduce graphics based lag.

I much preferred the new MOH game.

I have this as well and it is a very good game, but very tactically oriented which can sometimes cause a bit of frustration. I got rifleman to 10, spec ops to 10, and sniper to 5 (I HATE sniping in this game - way too easy) I essentially stopped playing due to lack of interest.

Thanks,
I'll keep my eyes open for the patch:thumbup: Kind of frustrating spending the $60 and having the game installed but not being able to play:(

Infinity Ward did not put out Black Ops. Treyarch did and they have always been slow to roll out patches when needed. Hopefully with all of the complaining about the MP lag they'll actually address the problem in a timely manner. I've also had server issues. Only a handful of servers show up at a time and those that do get compiled in the list are usually overseas servers with very high pings.

My bad, I meant Activision.

Activision is the distributor. Treyarch is the developer.

I had very similar problems to yours and I'm running a pretty similar set up, only with more RAM. The game would crash constantly, even the single player mode. I noticed that Steam installed an update around Thursday-Friday and things seem much smoother now. Maybe try checking Steam for updates? It's a shame they would release such a buggy build, but they're bound to fix it.

Thanks for the heads up. I bought through steam so I'll give that a shot later this afternoon when I get back from a walk with the family and dog. Then I've got to roast up some pheasant my buddy got yesterday:thumbup: But after all that fun has died down I'll get back on the comp and see if I can't get this game rolling.

You can check your system against the requirements here:

http://www.game-debate.com/games/in...Duty+7&ram=4&checkSubmit=#system requirements

It looks like your system does not have the juice. You can also change the parameters of your system to find out what you would need to upgrade to play.

Here are the minimum:

Call of Duty System Minimum Requirements

* OS: Windows® Vista/ XP / 7

* Processor:Intel® Core2 Duo E6600 or AMD Phenom X3 8750 or better

* Memory: 2GB

* HDD:12GB

* Video: Shader 3.0 or better 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8600GT / ATI Radeon® X1950Pro or better

* Sound: DirectX 9.0c-compatible

* DirectX: 9.0c

The lag problems are just as bad on the 360.
I have to admit, this game is terrible. I understand with over three million people playing it will slow the servers down, but it is out of control.
Thirty plus minutes of waiting to join a room is Crazy.
I do like the game play, a lot, when it is working right.
Hope they get it fixed soon for all platforms.

i havent noticed much lag on live, but they do need to comeout with some updates ASAP...joining games in a party is pretty much impossible, spawn points are terrible etc..i havent come to a decision if the game is amazing or just stupid yet.
