Hey guys, so I finally convinced myself to get a Code 4 (the aluminum handles kept me from pulling the trigger for a long time). Man,...this is a nice knife. So, I definitely want to do the grip tape mod. I searched and found an old thread from 2016 where the pic links don't work anymore, plus in that thread he says to outline the whole frame. I forget where, but I saw somewhere in this forum, someone post pics of a Code 4 with the grip tape smaller than the frame, which is what I want to do.

Hopefully that person will see this and post those pics again with tips on how he/she did it lol. I already ordered some grip tape btw that should get to me in a couple days.

EDIT: I found it! It was I insta9ves but I went back and the pic links were dead. Can you help me out man?

I put a single strip of grip tape length wise in the middle of each handle. The tape is about 1/2 inch wide and extends from close to the end of the clip to close to the pivot screw on one side. On the other side it extends from close to the pivot screw to within 3/4 of an inch from the end of the handle. A single strip attached to the middle of each handle.
It makes quite a bit difference in my ability to hold on to the knife.

I'd just really like to see I insta9ves pics again. From what I remember, he had these cutouts that basically filled maybe 75% of the scales and were not just rectangle strips. It was almost like he had the frame cutout and shrunk it and cut the tape to that shape. I just wanna know how he did it lol.

Good idea, I have a Code 4 as well. I would use some clear sticky plastic (Contact/Fablon - whatever it may be called, usually used to laminate maps, cover books etc), stick it down on the scales and then mark out with a permanent marker where you want the edges and holes cutting. Then stick it to the back of some grip tape and cut out on the lines.

I've got the photos from the original thread but don't know how to post them.

I got some GT 5000 grip tape. I traced circles around a dime, cut them out, and placed them where my fingers would slip, opening the knife. There are two on each side. The circles look like they were put on at the factory.
I have also put them on my SS Spyderco Police, and Kershaw Launch.
