So, after harping about how cold steel should upgrade their steel, It took me a while to get on board....what a odd animal I make eh lol

So, I've FINALY I just pulled the cord and I am waiting on these two bad boys, the Code 4(clip) and the Broken Skull(Blue). I already have the Aus8 code4 spear point, but I am looking forward to the clip version, that should present a somewhat finer tip.

I haven't heard too much love for the broken skull, aside been real thin, It sure seems like a real winning package, something to toss aside the iconic Endura4!

what's your take on the broken skull? as it been a solid success?

Maybe you missed the hype train but the broken skull has been praised non stop since it came out for its build and function. The only bashing it gets (and i agree with it) is the huge logo on the blade......otherwise a fantastic knife in function. You'll enjoy that code 4 in XHP, cannot beat it pound for pound, i have all 3 in XHP and carried the spear point for a long time.

I predict the broken skull will be one of your favorites. Enjoy 👍👍 Kevin

Oh dude!!!! It's a sure winner right there :)

I hope I didn't "miss the hype", in the sense that it looks to me like a potential staple design

I'm gonna be getting a blue Broken Skull after Christmas, since I will undoubtedly be getting money from some of my relatives.

I really like the look of the broken skull but how well is the heat treatment? I expect to cut dirty abrasive stuff that wear away my 5160, 1095, 52100, and Superblue pretty quick. My elmax, m390, and ZDP 189 tend to micro-chip which is a hassle to resharpen. Is cold steel getting good feedback on their offering of CTS-XHP? If its done well consistently, it could be exactly what I've been looking for. Out of the box performance is very important to me because I don't enjoy warranty hassles. I hope they do an actual cutting test (like in their videos) of rope or at least a turkey. I'll keep an eye out for a while.

Only Cold Steel I've missed trying out this year, the Code 4.
Broken Skull is awesome, tho. Carries so thin and nice, and light!

Congrats on your purchases! Enjoy them!

mael333ca, check out these two recent threads for some Broken Skull reviews. Apparently Lynn Thompson likes 'em enough to carry one! You mention it possibly unseating the Endura. While I don't foresee that happening (particularly as the Broken Skull is a limited-edition model), it is a fantastic design that garners a lot of my pocket time. I think Cold Steel hit a home run with this knife.

unklfranco, this thread addresses your question.

Cold Steel does its CTS XHP well, but if you're REALLY going to hard-use your knife, I'd suggest a Recon 1, Medium Espada, or AK-47 rather than the Broken Skull. The Broken Skull's thin blade makes it cut like a razor, but that same characteristic precludes heavy-duty use.

Peacent, your photos are always great!

Merry Christmas, everyone!

Thank you for the link. I'll check that Recon out too. Merry Christmas.

I agree, the Recon 1 and AK are much sturdier and heavily built, at the expense of weight and bulkiness. If hard use is in mind, go for one of those 2. My Recon 1 has been beaten to hell and beyond, and came back for more every time!

Man, the grey and orange looks great all the same. Can't wait to get hands on, I'll then see if I get hooked enough the get the other colors, especially if this is a limited model.

It's a very good knife. I have both it and the Endura and both are excellent knives, but I tend to carry the Broken Scull more. I am not sure why, that is just the way it seems to work out.

Christmas is over, as part of my gifts I got some cash money, so I finally broke down and ordered me a blue Broken Skull. Later to the party than some people I know, but I couldn't resist any longer. And that will be my final blade buy of 2016!

Knife nuts are knife nuts 365 days a year! :D
Congrats on your purchase, I'm sure you'll love it. Some more pics of mine to feed that "blade incoming" feel...

I'd have chosen blue if they had had it in stock, but grey was the one immediately available. No regrets!

Got my code 4 2 days ago, really happy with the clip point. I'll be getting my broken skull in few days, I'll post some pics of both together.

Got one of the CTS-XHP spear point Code 4's awhile ago.I really like mine, the handle's are quite slim and carries like gentleman's knife.Cold Steel choice of steel is right one,it takes a nice keen edge. The only con that I can say is the aluminium handles are a bit slick.

Got my Broken Skull and...I am disappointed. The blade shape is good, the steel is good, it's light and thin, all good. But the handle is terrible for me. There is no way I can comfortably hold the knife without the "hump" in the middle of the handle digging into my finger. Uncomfortable even in very brief uses, and almost certain to cause a blister if I had to use it for an extended period. Hate to say it, cause everything else about it is great, but the handle design insures I will absolutely never actually carry this knife, and it will just remain a personal collection piece. Now, don't get me wrong, I would have bought one as a collection piece regardless, but I thought this might be one of the few Cold Steel knives I actually carry on a regular basis.

Why don't you take a file, dremel or 80 grit sand paper, and sand the hump down smooth, it would take about 9 minutes.

I do not like altering my knives. Most I am willing to do to a knife I've bought is add a patina, and even that I rarely do.
