I read your thread on steel used in making Golden Spikes. My knife says uncle henry where it should and scrade usa but it doesn't say schrade steel +. Best guess would you say the blade is carbon steel?

Yes, most likely. This particular pattern was made from carbon steel from the beginning, and only converted to stainless late in production. As far as I am aware, the 153UH with stainless blades would be stamped SCHRADE+. Measure the thickest part of the choil in front of the guard. The difference in thickness is significant so that the blades of carbon and stainless will not interchange. Guard slots and handle cores had to be changed for the thinner stainless stock. I've tried it. The blades from the carbon knives will not go thru the guards and handles of the later ones. The blades of the later ones will go thru the older cores and guards, but everything is loosey-goosey and the butt screw will not tighten it up.

Codger, it was in rough shape but with brasso and flitz it looks like new. Love it. I defintely have Scrade fever
