Coffee to stain wood scales/handle, does it hold up well?

I'm wondering if using coffee (+, say, boiled linseed oil) to stain wood scales holds up well to give it that vintage look.

Here's a video that seems to show that it works on an axe handle. Anyone try it?

Is there anything else you use that's "around the house"? This stuff is neat to me. Thanks for sharing!
