This was a customer order not typical of the style knives I make. I thought it would be a challenge so I took the job. It's 1/8" D2 steel, flat grind with brass fittings and ebony wood. All comments welcome. Thanks for looking, Scott

Nice work :) Looks great, I like how the brass fittings turned out.
How do you like that Ebony? I've got a block of it my grandpa gave me a few years but haven't got the energy to cut it up yet.

Thanks Matt. I'm not a big fan of wood , but this was a special order so I accomadated the customer. The ebony is a deep dark rich colored wood, especially when you rub in tung oil. It's definately dense. I had a tough time tapping in the pins in the wrap around the pommel. It sands and saws easily.

Looks very classic, Matt. It has that Natchez Bowie look. The wrapped buttend intrigues me. Any chance of a pic of the ?silver/steel pommel wrap ? Jason.

Jason, the brass wrap was a bit tricky, but after I pondered it and asked a few questions on shoptalk forum it all came together. Basically what I did was take a piece of 0.020 brass sheet and cut to size what I needed to wrap the three sides of the pommel end. I centered the brass on the top flat and crazy glued it. I then drilled four small holes and tapped in brass pins. I proceeded to fold each side and follow the same procedure. after it was on, I sanded it on the platen of my grinder to make it flush to the handle sides. I hand sanded the wrap and buff it on a sisal/cloth buff to farther blend the brass to the handle. It didn't square as nicely as I would have liked, but with the pins set a little uneven and the way wrap ended up, it really has a rustic hand finished look about it. I can email you a pic of the wrap if you like.

Cerberus, thanks for the complement. I'm working on a large camp knife for a customer that you would appreciate. :D It has a blade shape similar to the Busse, but my design handle. I'll email you a pic when it's done.

Thanks Scott, I cant wait to see what you come up with. I finally got around to posting what you did for me on the other forums in Justin's new forum. His blank plus your work turned out great. I would not have the knife I got fi it werent for you two :D

Looks good. Kind of reminiscent of the Tah Chee bowie. The blade is shaped differently, but the handle is very similar.

Thanks Cerberus, Justin emailed me about his forum, I'll have to check it out.
Thank you for the complement Keith. I got a little frustrated working on it, but that's what making knives is all about. Beating the challenges that come along.

Looks like something that would ride in a sash or a waistcoat every day. Good stuff.
Thank you :) I thought it would also look good for a knife that the cowboy shooters would carry. The SASS, the group that dress in 1800's clothing and have shooting matches.
