Ok, so I have my eye on a few axis assist knives, the only thing holding me back is maintenance. I don't usually disassemble my axis lock knives, because I like my warranty and I've never needed to; a quick flush under hot water, with maybe some liquid soap and a toothbrush if its really bad, followed by a thorough drying and light oiling generally does the trick. Will that work for the axis assist knives? The disssembly videos of the barrages I find online make the mechanism look pretty complicated. I visit the beach a lot with my family, and while I never actually swim with my knives, I do use them for food prep and such on the beach, and I like to clean them in the hotel room right after so the sand and salt spray don't wreck havoc on the internals. I'm concerned my flush and oil technique won't get all the nasty stuff out of the assist mechanism. Am I worrying too much? Has anyone used an axis assist or auto (I'm guessing it would be similar) knife for a long time in crappy conditions? Without disassembling it to clean it?
