Coins for spacers?

I've used brass Mexican coins for spacers before, they came out pretty good and were cheaper than brass stock...

Well of course a good, upstanding citizen such as myself would never do a thing like this. But I know a, guy, er, a yeah, this guy...that used Nickels and did filework on them in a vine pattern and combined it with cocobolo. That turned out really well, just like the time that same guy used (uses?

) a speed limit sign for fileworked spacer material

I haven't used them for spacers, but I have used them for washers. I have set coins as butt caps for the birth year of the customer.
Silver coins would make nice spacers as well as the 1966 to 1969 clad coins. It is not illeagal to cut up a coin but it is illegal to change the face value.

vine pattern, huh, I'll bet that was neat.
