That got ya to look huh? I got a bag of coke from Kayne and Son on the way down to the Trackrock hammer in. This forge setup with the coke is great. I can run the forge for 6 hours or more with coke at the equivalent of say a grapefruit size handfull.Just as an experiment I heated a 1" piece of stainless to bright orange heat in 3 min.I havent started any blades since getting back from Trackrock. I've just been making leaves and scrolls as practice. If you haven't done any forging yet, do it now. $15 for a 50 lb bag is quite efficient. I figure a lb per hour.

Hey Gouge,

Glad you are getting the hang of that coke forging. Did you ever cut down the sides of that cool homemade coke forge you built? I have been doing a lot of scrolls and stuff like that for practice lately too.:D

I'm curious, why not start with bituminous coal, and make your own coke? Or even go the Neo-Tribal way, and make your own charcoal?

Mark, my friend---really enjoyed your demonstration with that good looking forge. Now if only Deb will let you get some time on it----Maybe she will let you cook TROUT on it, LOL Sandy

Hey Chuck, I havent cut down the sides yet that is another reason I have mainly been doing smaller stuff so far.I guess I'll have to get a concrete blade to cut it down, but then i'll lose my handles:( .
I guess the main reason I just got the coke intead of the coal is that it seemed to me that burning down the coal to coke would be a step that I could skip. I also live in the city, so that make burning wood to make charcoal a bit of a challenge.
Sandy, the thoughts of slapping a nice fresh trout on the fire crosses my mind every time I fire it up.
Deb and I will be going camping this w/e. I plan on bringing the forge with us. Maybe I'll throw a nice Flounder on the fire to see how it works.Forge fired fish, sounds like a winner.
