Cold Blue on 15n20?

Considering using 15n20 as a standalone steel for my little puukko project. I think I'd like to try cold bluing it. All the info I search for references pattern welded steels, and I'm wondering if 15n20 will not take to cold bluing. Is that correct?

I had some contaminated Van's Cold Blue (turned red in the bottle....should be a clear blue solution) that I didn't think would work. Well, it did. Not very well, but dark enough that I figure that a new bottle at full-strength should darken very nicely. I'll leave this up in case it helps to answer anybody else's dumb questions!
