I just read an article in the Jan. 2000 issue of Blade Magazine. The author Joseph Szilaski, has been experimenting with cold forging as a step in his knife production. Hey T.J. He says that for stock removal he roughs out the shape of the knifeknocks the sharp corners of the edge, and with moderate hammer blows with 24 to 32 oz. hammmers, he reducesthe thickness by 1/16 to 3/32, keeping both sides even. He claims it improves grain structure. J.D Smith made a blade using this method and it was evaluated by Kim Breed in the No. '98 issue of Blade. T.J. It might be interesting to try on your planer blades, one with one without. Sounds interesting!
